Ski
Mountaineering
(March-May) has been widely practiced in Europe for decades. It
involves climbing remote mountains or passes using an open heel
binding and skins and skiing back down, usually over untracked terrain.
Trips
can be customized for more or less elevation gain, on average an
aspiring ski-alpinist should be able to climb and ski 1000m in a
day. On ski traverses you are expected to be able to carry and ski
with a moderately heavy pack containing your personal belongings.
For
those who have never done ski mountaineering we recommend one of
our ski-safaris as an introduction
to this type of mountain activity. Requirements are an advanced
level of skiing and good physical fitness.
Chamonix-Zermatt-Alagna
(March/April)
Also
known as the Haute Route, this seven-day ski mountaineering traverse
takes you through the heart of the western alpine chain. Nights
are spent in typical alpine mountain huts, mostly in France and
Switzerland. Advanced skiing ability combined with excellent physical
fitness is required for this trip.
Monte
Rosa Circle
(March/April)
The
Monte Rosa Circle ski adventure is one of our favorite and least-known
ski mountaineering trips. From Alagna in six days we travel on touring
equipment to Macugnaga, Saas Fee and Zermatt - climbing the Monte
Rosa on our 5th day. After a final night celebrating in Zermatt
we ski back to Alagna using the Monterosaski lift system. This is
a high alpine ski traverse which requires good stamina and ski technique.
Bernese
Oberland
(April/May)
The
Bernese Oberland is with the Chamonix Zermatt certainly one
of the most famous ski traverses. In six days we traverse the range
climbing peaks of over 4000m almost every day. This tour
is for the experienced and fit ski mountaineer who seeks technically
and physically challenging terrain under the expert guidance of
a mountain and ski guide.
Customized ski mountaineering trips
are organized on a daily or weekly basis to the Monte Rosa, Mont
Blanc, Gran Paradiso, Ecrin, Ortles Cevedale, Hochtirol tour, Silvretta
or the Simplon Pass area.
